Rob Caden Somerville

Rob Caden Somerville, 28, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Rob was born in Raleigh, NC to Matt and Cheryl Somerville and was raised in Cary, NC. He was the third of five children. Rob professed faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. That faith and love was reflected in Rob's life, as he himself loved people well: he was greatly gifted in working with his hands, and was his happiest when able to serve people in some way. Rob was an Eagle Scout and loved outdoor activities including hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing and skiing. He worked at various jobs including landscaping and home repair/improvement. As the pastor said in Rob's memorial service, "Anyone who met Rob liked Rob. Anyone who got to know Rob - even a little - loved Rob." He married Jenny Berger in 2018, his junior and senior high crush. In his relatively short life, Rob lived large - he was a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and loved best to be out in God's amazing creation. But he also had faced a decade of struggle with alcohol addiction - something that had ruined/ taken the life of his aunt, numerous great uncles, grandfather and great grandfather. He bravely fought this addiction over the years. He had recently completed time in a wonderful rehab facility, was in a new job that he loved, and was very hopeful. As much as Rob is missed by his family & friends, we are so glad he is forever free - happy & whole with the Lord for eternity - never again caught up in the vicious cycle of addiction. Rob will be deeply missed by his parents, Matt & Cheryl; wife, Jenny; siblings Ben (and his wife Alex), Mary (and her husband Jason), Caroline (and her husband Noah) and Sam; nephews Noah, Judah, Titus, and Liam; aunts Barb, Joni, and Pat; uncles Michael, Jay, Tom and Keith, cousins Sara, Craig, Jeff, John, Mandy, Chad, Katy, and Anna; grandfather Slim; and the many people who knew & loved him. A memorial service was held on January 30, 2021 at Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC, and is available online on the PeacePCa channel on YouTube.
