Janice Pullen

Janice R. Pullen passed away with her family by her side on March 8, 2023, in Cary, NC. She was born on June 27, 1942, in Wheatland, Wyoming, the daughter of Roy and Eva Robinson . Jan spent her early years on a ranch in Wyoming, later moving to Douglas and graduating from Douglas High School in 1960. Jan received her bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Montana State University and her MBA from the University of South Dakota. She was a CPA and taught classes at State Fair Community College along with running her own accounting practice in Sedalia, Missouri. She later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and lived there for over 15 years prior to moving to North Carolina in 2007 to be closer to her son Jim and his family. Jan was a devoted mother and grandmother, and truly treasured being able to watch her grandchildren grow up. She attended countless soccer games, track meets, cross country meets, and swim meets over the past sixteen years. She enjoyed spending time with her friends in her neighborhood in Apex and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Post 116 in Fuquay Varina. Having grown up in Wyoming, Jan competed in rodeos in her teen years and was a competitive sharpshooter as well. She loved the outdoors, especially the mountains of Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. She also loved animals, having had many pets over the years, and her beloved Popeye the Boston Terrier will miss her very much. Though she chose accounting as a profession, Jan had a creative side; she enjoyed gardening, sketching, creating jewelry and baking for friends and family. She was a devoted country music fan – old school style; she reminisced about seeing Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings in the early 1960s and often told us she was “country when country wasn’t cool.” Jan is survived her son, Jim Pullen, her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Pullen, and her three grandchildren: Jack, Joshua, and Jenna Pullen, all of Cary, North Carolina. She is also survived by her brother, John Robinson and her sister-in-law, Nancy Robinson, of Wheatland, Wyoming, as well as her nieces Heather, Erin, and Amber. Additionally, she is survived by her long-time companion, Jerry Harvey of Holly Springs, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Dr. James R. Pullen, in 2019. Jan wished for her ashes to be scattered near Laramie Peak, Wyoming, a wish that her son Jim and his family will honor later this year. A memorial service will be held at Wake Memorial Park in Cary at 2:00 pm on March 19. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Habitat for Humanity or the ASPCA.
