Gary Hurst

Gary Rae Hurst, 71, of Cary entered the gates of Heaven on June 21, 2025. He was born May 5,1954 to Norman Rae Hurst and Sybil Hurst, née Yeargan. Upon graduating from Apex High School, Gary obtained a degree in Business Management from King’s Business College. He worked in accounting for Kaiser Permanente, Accent Urgent Care, Wake Med, and for many years as the part-time Financial Secretary of Good Hope Baptist Church Gary was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, and as church treasurer. He also assisted with the “We Care” ministry to Good Hope shut-ins and sang in the worship choir for many years. Gary volunteered with the Miss North Carolina pageant. He was on the Miss Greater Raleigh pageant committee and judged preliminary pageants across the state. He enjoyed helping others succeed and provided support to many promising pageant participants. Gary lived his life as a Christ-like example as a faithful friend to many and extended generosity to others at every opportunity. Gary is survived by his uncle Felton Yeargan (Bonnie), aunts Eva Lloyd (Mike) and Lela McCarson, uncle John Goodwin (Wyonne), several Hurst and Yeargan cousins, and will live on in the hearts and memories of his many friends made over the years. The family gives special thanks to cousin Jerry Hurst, aunt Eva Lloyd, and close friend Stephanie Yates for their dedication and loving support of Gary during the end of his life. There will be a celebration of life service honoring Gary on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Good Hope Baptist Church, 6628 Good Hope Church Road, Cary, NC 27519 in the Family Life Center. Rev. Hugh Allen McClure, Senior Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service, which will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow immediately after the service in the Good Hope Baptist Church cemetery In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Hope Baptist Church, 6628 Good Hope Church Road, Cary, NC 27519 designated to Good Hope's Capital Campaign.
