Donald Benjamin Salguero

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Donald Benjamin Salguero on December 26, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 2-year battle against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Son of Zoila Franco de Salguero and Custodio Salguero, he was born April 7, 1942, in the small town of Zacapa, Guatemala. He was the youngest of 9 siblings and survived by one sister, Hilda de Claveria. In his younger years, Donald was an avid soccer player and a participant of the Guatemalan National Soccer League, 1st Division, Zacapa FC; position Midfielder. He is an Alumni of Escuela de Agricultura Nacional, Barcenas. He was an accomplished agriculturist, passionate about cultivating watermelon, tomatoes, peanuts and animal husbandry. In 1970 he immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts where he began his family. He resided there for 48 years before relocating to Holly Springs, NC in 2018. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Maria Salguero; His daughter Brenda and her husband Jorge Ordonez, his son David Salguero and his wife Jandy, his youngest son Bobby Salguero and his wife Eva-Marie. He was especially close to and affectionally nicknamed “Petito” by his 9 grandchildren: Allie and her husband Kevin Teo, Andrea and her husband Erick Sandoval, DJ, Caleb, Benjamin, Lexi, Greyson, Colby and Asher. He also leaves behind a great granddaughter Sophia Gabriela Sandoval. He is survived by other relatives, sisters and brother in laws, nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. Petito was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He prioritized spending his time enthusiastically engaged in the lives of all his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in activities such as sporting events, school concerts and all their academic achievements. Donald was kind, gentle and a humble servant of the Lord. A man of immense selflessness and wisdom who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. A well-respected member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he led his life by example, teaching others to walk in the light of our Saviors love. He will forever be missed and remembered by all of those that knew him. Please join us as we honor and celebrate his life. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 10:00am Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2540 N Broad St Fuquay Varina, NC 27526 Graveside service directly following at the Holly Springs Municipal Cemetery
