Philip Dickson Hren
July 5, 1960 - February 8, 2021
Philip Hren passed away on February 8, 2021 after a four and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was raised by John and Joyce Hren in Gainesville, Florida. He attended Princeton University for his undergraduate degree, and then earned a PhD in Applied Physics from Cornell University. While singing with the Cornell Catholic Community Folk Group, he met his wife of 30 years, Catherine (Walsh) Hren. A software engineer by day, Philip spent his free time playing racquetball, singing in the Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church Choir, and playing the trumpet with the Little German Band and Dancers of Raleigh. He is survived by his wife and three children, Allison, Madeline, and Andrew, his parents, and his four siblings. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 19th at 11am at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, NC. Due to Covid restrictions, face masks are required, and social distancing measures will be in effect. Please arrive by 10:30 to be seated.
