Patsy Jean Simcox

August 11, 1936 - October 6, 2017

Patsy Jean (Botner) Simcox went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 6, 2017 in Cary NC surrounded by her family. Born on August 11, 1936, in Drumright, Oklahoma, to Earl and Callie Botner, Pat lived a wonderful life filled with boundless love for family and friends. The second youngest of four, Pat had close life-long relationships with her sister, Evelyn Wiedle, and bothers, Earl and Donald Botner. While still young, her family moved to Southern Illinois and eventually settled in Centralia Illinois. During 9th grade, she met James Simcox, who would become her high school sweetheart and eventually her loving and devoted husband of 55 years. Pat was passionate about education and learning and became an avid reader at a very young age. She was also passionate about loving and serving others and never missed an opportunity to bless someone else. Pat’s journey of service included volunteering with the hospital book cart, teaching English as a second language, delivering meals on wheels, working at a local food pantry, counseling at a crisis pregnancy center, and a multitude of other ways within her church, with family and friends. Pat was trained as a dental assistant, but gladly left the work force for a much greater joy, that of motherhood when she and Jim adopted their two children, David and Lynn. Pat was a wonderful wife to Jim, supporting him in his career which included many moves within the US and Germany. Pat was always up for adventure, but after a long journey together, she and Jim fulfilled a life-long dream and built their first home together, retiring in Knoxville, Tennessee. Nestled in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, on the 9th green of a golf course, their home was a place of great joy, peace and warmth. It was a place that family and friends loved to visit, especially grandchildren! After Jim’s passing, in 2009, Pat moved to NC to spend her last few years with her children and grandchildren. At the age of 81, Pat ended the race well. She will be forever missed. Pat is survived by her son David Simcox and his children, James, Jonathan, Katelyn, and Matthew; and her daughter Lynn Long, her husband Scott, and their children, Hannah, Emma, Benjamin and Sarah. A Celebration of her life will be2:00 pm Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Cary Alliance Church, 4108 Ten-Ten Rd, Apex, NC 27539. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the deacons’ fund at Cary Alliance Church in Apex, NC.
