Nunzio Vulpis
April 26, 1932 - May 23, 2020
Nunzio Vulpis (88), passed away on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020. He was the third of five sons born to Maria and Angelo Vulpis in Middletown, NY. Nunzio was raised in Brooklyn, NY and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Japan and worked on the Stars and Stripes military newspaper. Nunzio is survived by his beloved wife Antonietta (Ann), whom he married on June 5th 1960; his four sons (and their wives), Michael (Mindy), Nunzio (Trish), Joseph, and Paul (Allison); his four brothers, Joseph, Willy, Anthony, and Nick; and his seven grandchildren, Troy, Ryan, Cole, Morgan, Shane, Riley, and Jake. He successfully built a typesetting/graphic arts business in New York City over a period of 30 years. Nunzio and Ann started raising their family in an apartment in Brooklyn, NY, but soon moved to their first house in Oceanside, NY, and then 15 years later to Syosset, NY. In 1995, Nunzio and Ann retired to Fuquay Varina, NC, and then to Holly Springs, NC, where Nunzio lived out his final days. Nunzio was deeply proud of the family he built with Ann, who was the love of his life for 60 years. He loved spending time with Ann and their sons and grandchildren, playing cards, telling stories, drinking coffee, going to church, and watching golf and Wheel of Fortune. Nothing brought him more joy than a friendly family poker game after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Everyone who met Nunzio liked him immediately. So many shared Starbucks and red wine moments will never be the same. Due to current circumstances, the family will hold a private service at Wake Memorial Park on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020. A larger gathering to remember Nunzio’s life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Nunzio’s favorite charity, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/
