Mark Lee Dufault

December 4, 1950 - March 5, 2020

Mark Lee Dufault Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Raleigh on March 5, 2020. Mark is survived by his wife Rose (née Zaller); sister Diane Alaskin of Sacramento, California; brother Steven Dufault of San Antonio, Texas; son Mark Dufault Jr. (children Ksenia and Nikolas) of Raleigh; daughter Amy Vetsch (husband Brian and children Tyler, Sarah, and Haley) of Yakima, Washington; daughter Kim Earnhardt (husband Charles and children Audrey, Charles III, Layla, and Dalton) of Raleigh; son Darin (wife Kimberly and children Benjamin, Martha, and Henry) of Raleigh; stepson John Teets (wife Gina and children Michael and Noah) of Cleveland, Ohio; stepson Timothy Teets (fiancé Brittany Johnson and children Sarah and Patrick) of Cleveland, Ohio; stepson Daniel Teets (wife Lauren and son Benjamin) of Cleveland, Ohio, and three adopted step-sons with five grandchildren. Mark was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on December 4, 1950 to Harold Langley Dufault and Irma Ernestine Dufault (née Kistner) and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. Shortly after high school he entered the United States Air Force, where he began his career in engineering. Mark was fortunate to have a varied career through aviation, television, and MRI engineering. Mark loved card games, motorcycles, coaching youth athletics, traveling, and Mexican food. Above all else, though, Mark had an enduring passion for making and listening to music. He was a self-taught guitarist from his teenage years, Sunday morning radio DJ in his Air Force days, and celebrated by friends and family in his later years for hosting epic jam sessions into the early hours of the morning in his home living room. A service will be held for Mark at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cary, NC on March 10, 2020 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Mark’s name to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (www.mhopus.org).
