Leslie Joseph Deck

March 4, 1930 - January 6, 2017

Leslie Joseph Deck, 86, of Cary, N.C. passed away on January 6, 2017. He was a long time resident of Stowe, Vermont and a memorial service and inurnment in Stowe will occur at a later date. Leslie was born in Elizabeth, N.J. to Ethel Hett and Angelo Bonaventura on March 4, 1930. He married Anni Bauer on December 29, 1952 in Bamberg, Germany while serving in the US Army. He was a veteran of Korean War and was awarded numerous Service medals. He retired from the Army as Sergeant First Class after 24 years of service. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Stowe, Vermont and served a term as the Grand Master. He worked for the State of Vermont prior to his retirement in 1996. Leslie is survived by his wife Anni; daughter, Anna Story; her husband Myron Feinstein; son, Leslie L.Deck; his wife, Seiglinde; his siblings Michael and Pat Bonaventura , and Angie Melchionne ; his grandchildren, Paul Story, Sean Story, Jeffrey Story, Christopher Deck and Melanie Deck-Gebauer; his great-grandchildren: Grayson, Natalie, Ike and Lily Gebauer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Johanna Vornlocher and her husband, Hans and their children and grandchildren in Bamberg, Germany and his former son-in-law Richard Story in Stowe, Vermont. The family celebrated their Opa ( Leslie) and Oma ( Anni) at the Outer Banks in N.C. in October. He would get up every morning early to watch the sunrise over the water and the dolphins along the coast. The family of Leslie J Deck wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Duke University Hospital in Durham and Transitions Life Care in Raleigh for the excellent and compassionate care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Wake Funeral and Cremation Services in Cary, NC is providing services.
