George Andrew Matroni
November 6, 1961 - March 6, 2020
George Andrew Matroni passed away peacefully surrounded by love, affection and undying appreciation after a fearless battle with pancreatic cancer on March 6, 2020. George was a jovial giant with a booming voice, commanding presence and an insatiable sweet tooth hidden behind his wry smile. A New York native, behind his Brooklyn bravado was a benevolent family man who took pride in providing for his wife and three children. A born engineer, George met life with a solution-oriented mindset. A twenty-three-year veteran of Cisco, he took great pride in his self-appointed role as mentor to new hires. His TAC team became a second family for George who welcomed his fatherly role with honor and satisfaction. At home, George was a true patriarch who consistently put his family’s needs before his own. He led with confidence and by example. A calming presence, George loved deeply with kindness, patience and forgiveness. His sarcastic, good-natured banter made him a favorite among staff at the Duke Cancer Center where George remained optimistic throughout his medical journey. Tough and resilient, his positive energy was contagious, routinely turning tears of sadness into tears of joy. George’s spirit will endure through his bride and soulmate Lisa, eldest son Andrew (Qiuyi), daughter Danielle (Thomas), son Joseph (Amie), sister Lisa and his first grandchild due later this year. Gone from this world but never forgotten, his legacy is eternally etched into the minds and hearts of all who knew him. A memorial service to celebrate George’s impact on this world will be held Wednesday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. at The Summit Church in Apex. A viewing will precede the service and begin at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network who work tirelessly to attack pancreatic cancer on all fronts. Donations may be arranged at https://secure.pancan.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2681&mfc_pref=T&2681.donation=form1.
