Donna Thorne Carswell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donna Thorne Carswell was born 11/20/1945 in Raleigh, NC and passed peacefully on 7/18/2022 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC with her family by her side. She leaves behind very precious memories with her children, Scott Godwin of Winterville, NC and family (wife Sarah and children Jordyn and Reid) along with Ashley Williams of Haw River, NC and family (husband Rob and children Madison, Porter, and Colby). She also leaves behind her dedicated caregiver and husband, John Carswell of Raleigh, NC and his children, Hampton Carswell and Caroline Basham. Her beloved sister, Sheila Ogle of Cary was her best friend and the keeper of many sisterly secrets that will be cherished until they are reunited. To our beloved Mom/Nana/Wife/Sister/Friend/Prayer Warrior- You were so special and so loved by so many people. You always spoke about your testimony and let me tell you, your courageous battle with cancer over the past 3.5 years proved to be nothing short of one amazing testament of your strength and faith. You fought until the very end. Although cancer may have taken you far earlier than we wanted, the memories we have of you will live on forever. You held many roles and titles over the years, but your most beloved title was Nana. We promise to speak of you often and keep your memory alive for all of us, but most importantly, for those grandbabies you so adored. You were the most amazing confidant and prayer warrior one could ask for and those bold and mighty prayers of yours along with your reassuring words of love and wisdom sure will be missed this side of heaven. Before you passed, you said, “I am not ready…I have more witnessing to do.” So, may all of your friends and family carry out that mission in your honor. You are so loved and are sorely missed but we hold onto the promise that we will see you again. What a day that will be. Love you and see you soon. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at First Baptist Church in Cary (218 S Academy St, Cary NC 27511) on Saturday, July 30th. Visitation will be at 1pm with services starting at 2pm.
