He was the devoted husband of 31 years to Danielle, and the proud and loving father of Sophia Nicole—his girls were his world. A true “girl dad,” he cherished every moment spent as a Girl Scout leader for Sophia’s troop, relishing in the adventures and the bond they shared. Born to George Burkett and Lydia Fishbaugh, he was a Long Island boy through and through, with a deep love for the beach and fond memories of growing up surrounded by family. Though he missed his New York roots and the family he left behind, he never regretted the move to North Carolina, where he built a beautiful life and career as an IT Manager for the State of North Carolina. He was the beloved brother of George, Richard, and Nina, and a fun-loving uncle to twelve nieces and nephews. As a boy scout, he developed a lifelong love for camping, nature, and the art of storytelling. He and his brothers spent countless childhood hours inventing games, and he carried that creativity with him into adulthood, turning everyday moments into stories, always with a little bit of Bigfoot lore for good measure. A passionate reader and writer, he was a huge sci-fi fan who believed in the magic of the universe and the power of imagination. He was an avid Seattle Seahawks and New York Yankees fan, proudly sporting his team colors and cheering with all his heart. Despite his shy nature, his love for his family was something he shouted from the rooftops. He was goofy, open-minded, kind beyond words, and always ready to lend a hand. Quiet in his demeanor, but never in his love, his presence was a gift to all who knew him. He often said, “As long as I’ve got my girls, I’m happy doing anything.” And he meant it. Whether it was a walk on the beach, a quiet evening reading, or a silly car ride, life with his family was everything. He touched the lives of so many simply by being himself. He was the man of Danielle’s dreams, the best father Sophia could ever ask for, and a friend to all who had the honor of knowing him. He will be missed beyond words, loved beyond measure, and remembered always.
