Providence Klein

Providence Mary Klein passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 1, 2023 at the Brittany Place Assisted Living Facility in Cary NC. She was 86 years old. A memorial mass is planned for Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 1 PM at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cary. Provi was born in 1936 in New York City as Mary Providence Johnnides. She was the daughter of Michael Johnnides and Providence Anita Barone Johnnides and attended Good Counsel College and the Berkeley School. Provi married Michael Francis Klein Jr. at Saint Vincent Ferrar Church in New York City on September 8, 1956 For more than three decades Provi and Mike lived in Middletown, NJ, raising their four children. Mike commuted to New City where he worked at the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse; and Provi continued her education receiving a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Douglas College at Rutgers University, and a nursing degree from Brookdale Community College. Avid boaters, Provi enjoyed sailing with Mike on the water ways of the northern New Jersey shore, and they were members of the Patten Point Yacht Club in Long Branch and the Metedeconk River Yacht Club in Brick Township. They retired to Savannah, GA in the 1990s and lived there for over a decade before moving to the Searstone Retirement Community in Cary, NC. Provi liked to help people and had many interests. She volunteered her time in first aid squads and became an Emergency Medical Technician and a Registered Nurse, working briefly in the Emergency Room at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. In addition, she attained a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, bred Birman cats, and she was an accomplished baker who loved to share her Italian Christmas cookies with her friends and family. She enjoyed creating gifts of hand-made crystal jewelry, and painting landscape scenes of the many places she and Mike visited on their global travels. Providence is survived by three of her four children: Catherine Marsico of Cary, NC; Janet Marr of Carmel, IN; and Thomas Klein of Greenwich, CT. Her son Michael Francis Klein III passed away in 1980, and her husband Michael Francis Klein Jr. passed away in 2020. Provi is also survived by six grandchildren: Sara Marsico Katz, Samuel Michael Marsico, Emily Ann Marr, Kathryn Ann Marr, Michael Francis Klein IV, and Christopher Thomas Klein; two sons-in-law, Samuel Marsico and Price Marr; and one daughter-in-law, Debra Klein. She will be missed by all.
