Minalva E. Vernon-Yunus

Minalva Vernon-Yunus (Seata) as she was passionately called by her loved ones, was brought into this world on April 12th, 1948 to her parents Ferdinand and Dorothy Vernon in the district of Trelawney, Jamaica. She is the youngest sibling to her eldest brother Mortimer Campbell and was raised in the district of Tangle River with her 3 other siblings; Winston, Jacklyn and Ralston. In 1968, Minalva at the age of 19, traveled to the United States, where in New York she began her adult life and went on to attain a multitude of lifetime achievements. Two of her biggest accomplishments were and continue to be her daughters, Dr. Donna and Dawn. She dedicated her life to raising her girls. She taught them to be well mannered, cultured, astute and educated. In the 1980's, Minalva went on to pursue and master her knowledge in the field of healthcare. She graduated in 1991 with honors, obtaining her Bachelors of Science degree from Audrey Cohen College as a Social Worker. Later, she attended NYU in pursuit of her Masters degree. Minalva worked for NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, where she was honored with awards for her empathetic care for her patients and their families. In 1997, at the early age of 49, she was privileged to retire gracefully after working for 25 years. Once retired, Minalva proudly devoted herself into the Christian faith and her family, all while traveling around the world. As the Lord saw it fit, she was called to be with him on the 18th of May, 2021. She left to mourn her two daughters Dr. Donna and Dawn, one son-in law, Clive, three grandchildren, Cason, Conner and Madison, one sister, Jacklyn, 3 brothers, Mortimer, Winston and Ralston, nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends. Minalva was one of the strongest, most courageous, loving, and selfless women to ever walk this earth. Our family was blessed to have her as the Matriarch. Both immediate and extended family, would not be where they are today, had we not had Minalva's loyalty, tenacity, and dedication. Her independence and integrity has carried her through this world, allowing her to reach mountain peaks unattainable for many others. It is with her elegance and poise that she leaves behind a great legacy. She has instilled that her future generations contribute positive lasting impressions as she did. Her strong faith and love of God has allowed for her to rest peacefully. She is our family's eternal guardian angel and guiding light.
