Michael Edmund Wiker

Michael Edmund Wiker, age 64, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind his deeply loved and patient wife, Lynn. Together, they shared a life full of travel, exotic foods, and countless fishing adventures. He is also survived by his sister, Deb Wiker, and her husband, Rob Anderson; his brother, David Wiker, and his wife, Susie; and his beloved niece and nephew, Roman and Caitlin Wiker. Michael’s lifelong dedication to his country began at Eastern Washington University, where he earned an Army ROTC scholarship. He truly loved military life and took great pride in his service. After earning his commission, he completed both Airborne and Ranger schools. He then joined the famous 82nd Airborne Division. Later, he rose to the rank of Major and served as a Battalion Company Commander for Bradley Vehicles in Germany. His military career took him across Europe and into multiple combat zones. He served honorably in Operation Desert Storm, Kuwait, and Iraq. Michael was a highly decorated soldier. His honors included the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (5th award), the Army Achievement Medal (4th award), the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), and the Purple Heart. Michael transitioned to civilian life in 1996, joining the firm Booz Allen Hamilton. Duty called once again when the Army recalled him for two consecutive tours in Afghanistan. After returning home, he continued his consulting work for the government until his well-earned retirement in North Carolina. Outside of his service, Michael had a huge passion for global foods. He never met a hot pepper that was too hot for him. He loved writing lively restaurant reviews and even earned the title of "Food Influencer" from Google and had a respective following. Michael's sense of adventure, dedication to duty, and love for his family will never be forgotten. Memorial donations in Michael’s name can be made to your favorite charity. He will be laid to rest at Virginia Veterans Cemetery located at 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia along with his deceased parents Charles and Ginny Wiker. The service to honor his life will be held on August 6, 2026 at 1500. May God welcome and rest his soul in his eternal grace.
