Michael A. Bennett

Michael A. Bennett, 67, of Apex, North Carolina, passed away on August 12, 2026, following a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. Born to Edwin and Nancy Bennett in Unionville, Pennsylvania, Michael called Unionville home for fifty-five years before relocating to Apex to support his wife's family. Unionville remained a community he deeply valued and one to which he stayed closely connected throughout his life. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Donna Winslow Bennett; his beloved daughter, Amber Paige Bennett; his brother, Edwin Bennett and his wife, Libby; and several nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents. An avid outdoorsman, Michael found true contentment in nature. He approached hunting and fishing with a strong sense of responsibility and was intentional about protecting the places he frequented, harboring a deep respect and sense of awe for all forms of wildlife and the outdoors. Michael was also a gifted athlete whose love of sports began at a young age. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball at Unionville High School and was named Unionville High School Athlete of the Year in 1978. He continued playing baseball competitively well into adulthood, including with the Pitman Sox during their 2009 Men's Senior Baseball League Fall Classic Championship in Jupiter, Florida. His accomplishments on the baseball field were later recognized with his induction into the Kennett Square Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011. Some of Michael's most meaningful years in sports were spent coaching and mentoring his daughter, Amber, and her teammates. As an assistant softball coach on several teams from tee ball, travel ball, through to Unionville High School, he had the opportunity not only to share his knowledge and love of sports, but to help instill self-belief, sportsmanship, and meaningful life lessons in young players. Michael's life was centered around the people he loved and quiet acts of service. He took great pride in his career as a carpenter and construction contractor, believing that anything worth building was worth building well. Known for his work ethic, integrity, ingenuity, and attention to detail, Michael approached both his work and his life with a craftsman's eye and a humble, generous spirit. A devoted husband and father, he was a steady and dependable presence for his family — the person they could always count on and the one who somehow knew how to fix just about anything. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, teammates, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him. Service information A celebration of Michael's life will be held in Pennsylvania from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Kennett Square Country Club. In keeping with Michael's wishes, this will be a non-traditional gathering where friends and family can come together to share memories, stories, and laughter.
