James Allen Cox

James Allen “Jim” Cox, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on June 11, 2023, at the age of 87, while in Orange Park, Florida. He was born on March 13, 1936, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, to the late James Cox and Bera Sipe Cox. Mr. Cox served his country with honor as an airplane mechanic in the US Air Force. After his military service, he dedicated 28 years of his career to General Electric, and at the remarkable age of 82, he retired from Dewberry Engineering. Mr. Cox was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to excellence in his profession. Outside of work, Mr. Cox found great joy in his workshop and garden, where he spent countless hours pursuing his passion for craftsmanship. He also cherished moments of tranquility while fishing, appreciating the beauty of nature. As a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church for many years, he found solace and community in his spiritual life. Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Jackie Cox, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. He is also survived by his son, Allen Wade Cox of Raleigh; his daughters, Janet Cox Best and her husband Robbie of Starke, FL, and Jamie Lynn Cox of Apex. Mr. Cox will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Jessica, Jonathan, Hannah, Logan, and Carson, as well as his three great-grandchildren. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Boger. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 10 to 11 am at Salem Baptist Church, located at 1821 N. Salem St., Apex, NC 27523. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow at 11 am in the church. Burial will take place in the serene grounds of Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund. This meaningful gesture will honor Mr. Cox's unwavering devotion to his faith community and leave a lasting impact on the lives of others. During this time of profound loss, let us remember Jim as a dedicated husband, a devoted father, and a cherished friend. His legacy of hard work, love, and faith will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
