Jonathan Charles Haring

On Friday, August 7, 2020, Jonathan Charles Haring, husband, father, son and brother, passed away at home in Apex, NC, of complications from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) at 51 years of age. Jon is survived by his spouse, Elizabeth, two sons, Carlos and Victor, his parents Wayne and Erna Haring, and by his brothers Jeff (Cheryl) and James (Julie). Jon will be remembered by his nieces, nephew, extended family and friends. Most of all, he will be missed by his three cats, Tricks, Flash and Raven. Jon was born August 29, 1968, the youngest of three sons in Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan. He grew up in California, New Jersey and Colorado, graduating from high school in Colorado Springs, where he was the writer, actor, and co-editor of the ever popular Lo Bujet Theatre. He continued his education at Hastings College in Hastings, NE, graduating magna cum laude with a BA in Communication Arts, German and History. His thesis from his MA in History from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, Germans and Turkish History, 1880-1980, continues to provide a decade's worth of relief from insomnia. He was one of the few individuals in the world who could accurately identify the location of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan on a map and could speak and recognize, Kyrgyz, spoken outside of its borders. He had a passion for scouting as an Eagle Scout and was recognized for Outstanding Service as Den Leader of Den 4 for Pack 224 in Apex, NC. Jon wore many hats in his career, from dishwasher, teacher, hotel front desk receptionist, manual tester in the software industry and even social work caseworker, but his most loved role was that of being a father. Jon was known for his love of a good debate and books, knowledge of comic book superheroes and Joss Whedon trivia. A memorial service will be held at Wake Memorial Park on Friday, August 14, 2020, at 11AM EST. Attendance is welcomed. Face masks must be worn at the service and social distancing shall be maintained. Note: There is no bathroom at the location, but there is a gas station very nearby, just down the street.
